The Feather system was my first departure from DE's. Take your time, watch your angle. Feather recommends laying the blade almost flat against your skin, though my Dx seems to take on a more traditional angle. I've heard mixed things about the SS's power bulge.. good and bad.

    What blade are you using?

Might be worth trying the ProGuards just for a few shaves. They are not perfect and you can still give yourself a nick, but the reduce the chances dramatically.

I have used my Feather SS every now and then for a year, always with the Pro-Guard blades. I have all the other blades but my results with these have been so good that I haven't tried the others. I put in a new blade last Thursday and gave it a try being somewhat fearful of the newness of the blade and their reputation for being unforgiving. I purposely went very light with the strokes, trying to get a shave with no scrapes or nicks. The result was probably the best shave I've ever had, and I've had a succession of very good ones. When I smoothed the Nivea balm all over my face I could feel nothing but smooth skin. It was pretty darn impressive. It almost felt like cheating. No effort was required other than seemingly just wiping the lather off my face, and the shave was as good as I think I can get.

The ProGuard's can deliver a great shave, with peace of mind that you aren't going to remove an ear.

The Kai Milds are my go-to for the Feather. Feather Pros are awesome once they have a few shaves under them..and settle in. They are awesome if you cork them as well.

im going to pick up a feather artit at somepoint.

i picked up a cjb for $5 and about 15-20 shipping

worked out £20 from korea to my front door.

with feather blades in its very good, people who dont want to spend a lot of money on trying the feather should try the cjb

(have a look on google at shavenook for link to buy)

The CJB is a great choice if you're looking to give the Feather/Kai blade system a try or if you just want to keep to a budget. I have both the Feather AC Dx and a CJB. There are a few noticeable differences.. The most obvious is the construction. The Feather line adheres to a much higher level of fit and finish. Weight is greater. The CJB handle is a bit more plastic feeling. Less noticeable is that on the CJB the jaws that clamp the blade don't open as easily or as fully. They close securely and firmly which is more important.

None of these factors impact the shave experience negatively and if you never held or desired to hold the Feather line, you might never think things could be better.

All in all, the CJB, at a third of the price of the cheapest Feather, makes for an absolutely awesome non-folding razor.

a couple people have managed to add a set of scales to turn it into a folding razor as well
