First straight shave in over a year!
Hi all.
Been a while since I've been here. Today I shaved straight for the first time in over a year. I recently moved and my razors had been packed away. I'd been using an old double-edge with shaving cream (hanging head in shame) since I got here. Anyway, I ran out of blades and needed a shave, so I remembered I have about 20 straights ready to go. I decided on my Bigelow & Dowse 7/8"
I lathered up with a brush for the first time in over a year, found a place to hang my strop and went to work. Halfway through I regretted drinking 3 cups of coffee beforehand. It was unfamiliar. I felt like I had no idea how to shave. I couldn't seem to hold the razor correctly. Needless to say, it took me a long time.
But I didn't cut myself. And it's the best shave I've had in over a year.
And I'm doing it again soon.
It's good to be back on SRP, too.

Well I got to say lol... there is no need to hang your head in shame if you are using a DE and still wet shaving. DE's are cool too lol!! Not as cool as a straight, but...
Anyway lol - how long had you been shaving before taking your year-long hiatus? I took a three month break (or so) there a while back and when I got back to the straight - it was like coming home. Heck, I still haven't butchered my strop lol - and that's saying something!
Either way - welcome back.David

Thanks to all!
earcutter: (love the handle and the avatar, BTW) I started using a straight in 2007, shortly before I joined SRP. Only really cut myself badly once, but once is enough to make you remember it! So now that I'm getting back into using the straight, I'm going so slow the lather is drying on one side of my face before I get to it.
I'm sure it will come back to me.

No Question - One good slice will scar you . I have been lucky really in that I never really sliced my face all that badly. My ear on the other hand... well, that's a different story .

You could counter effect the 3 cups off coffee with 3 cups of alcohol... This may also help with the pain from the cuts
(Disclaimer: don't drink and shave) :-)

first str8 shave in a year? No wonder you're angry. 'Hope the re-entry is kind and the shaves - smooth.
