Thread: Shaving in Public

Before bed comment......I would shave with a DE at a public bathroom,I don't see what the big deal would be ?A straight I would leave for home only because of the equipment one would have to bring and also because I woud be more in a hurry. I assume we're talking about shaving at the sink and not the shower(which still really wouldn't matter) ? For that matter I would brush my teeth at the sink in public too. I had to do all this in the service and nobody went ewwww ,yer shaving in public I'm offended ! No offense but geeze let's grow up, I agree with ocd shaver. People will do all this adrenaline junkie stuff but cringe at the thought of a straight razor ????? WT you know what ,really? We all know that straights were commonplace once and no one thought anything of it,so how did we get so weak chinned about it ? Not us here but the general shaving public of course. Guess I'm just outdated in my logic.....but I'm comfy with that. Now washing ones lower particulars in the sink ? Um.......not okay...in fact kinda wierd. One word...shower.

P.S. I bring my dopp kit to work and shave in the bathroom when I need a bit of freshnin up ta do. Guess I'm wierd.

There's nothing wrong with keeping your golf balls clean.

It's gotta be done, I suppose.

About two or three years ago I was shaving at the gym daily — with the straight razor. I packed everything in my wet pack as if traveling, including my straight razor, which I stropped at home. Ah, there is nothing like lathering up and shaving with the straight after a lazy tour of the steam bath. Fellow gym members were curious. Some asked questions. Some had no idea straight razors still existed, and that some gentlemen still used them. I held many conversations with them about the world of traditional shaving. Several were even converted to double edge shaving — no one to straight. My shaves were a pleasure. They still are, although I no longer shave at the gym. So, gentlemen, if you want to shave straight at the gym, enjoy the experience.

There are older guys who use the gym I used to go to who are comfy being naked in the changeroom, and would even sit barebum on the change benches, this I found a bit odd, however shaving your FACE at the gym wouldn't be odd to me, you've just bad your morning shower etc. Wouldn't fancy using a straight there though it would be to easy to get knocked at the wrong moment. Shaving anything else would be off putting, but on the other hand full length mirrors could be useful :-)

Honestly though I would wait for the sink closest to the wall to set up at, that way I only had to watch people from one direction..

Just my opinion but personally I wouldn't do it. The gym I go to when in Asia has the usual exercise stuff and also jacuzzis, sauna and a steam room. I can imagine it would be a pleasure to lather up right after a steam session and a shower but for starters I'd be bothered taking my gear with me and I'm pretty sure both the assistants and other patrons would come to me asking questions, gawking...would do nothing for my concentration and it would take away the enjoyment I derive from my leisurely straight shaves, they're as much a meditation moment to me as a functional activity. But then I stipulate that I'm not the most sociable guy on the planet during my off the job time so ymmv, this is just my own, highly subjective view.

I dont think I could for the simple reason that I'm a shaving pig and would feel guilty making such a mess, and would wind up having to clean a public bathroom. Hell when I rinse my face alone, I lean over the tub to keep the spashing to a minimum.

Just wip out your razor and start talking crazy and the whole place will be yours.
