+1 on the previously offered advice.
Always respect the blade. It can harm as well as help you while shaving.

I didn't follow the shave the cheeks only advice when I started either, ha! Respect the blade, don't fear it!

I'm only a week in this time, after a 30 year break from SRs, but I've learned 2 things: 1) it's not like riding a bike...you do lose your skill, and 2) all parts of the process require time, focus and concentration...stropping, building a lather and especially shaving.
