Its only my opinion also, but those scales look nothing like i have seen before of that vintage. Regardless, my opinion is the scales are out of scale with the blade. It could just be the pics, but the pins dont look of even diameter either. Regardless, it is a nice looking blade and scales I would be happy to own.

Thanked: 2I can appreciate saving orginal scales and pins and such and I will keep the original scales in the box but I will most likely send this out to Brad Maggard and have some new black horn scales and brass stacked washers put on. It seems as though a lot of members would prefer to keep razors as original as possible though.

Sorry, but that is one of the most classic scale shapes for big blades of that period (this only applies if you're going for an original look). The kind of proportioning often done today didn't happen as much originally - there's a lot of massive blades in original scales that look like they are from 6/8 size razors. I personally like this more conservative style of scale, but that's just me.
Anyway, my vote is for original scales. You can even build up that chip to original shape with a horn and superglue composite.
