Congrats on the find! That's a beast of a chopper. The understated (black horn?) scales don't do that blade justice. Imagine what that would look like with some nice custom scales . . .

I don't much care for tricked out scales. I do like black horn with white streaks, and I like ghost jade g10, but on the whole I like maintaining originality. I have no idea on the scales, but they look quite good in person.

Stunning...does it have its own gravitational field?
If you throw an apple at it does it start spinning around in orbit?

    +1 to understated scales!

I'm terrible identifying scale material from pics, but if they are horn, do yourself a favour and don't do a thing to them until after you have given them a bath in neetsfoot oil. They look like they are in pretty darn good shape already, but giving them a batch would make them look even better.

That thing is a beaut - treat her well, and remember: primum non nocere!

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Forgot to show the grind. Major no no with the wedges, I know...

They are actually quite cool in person. They need to be tweaked slightly. I think I'm just going to let Glen sort it out. I'm fine working on most pieces by hand myself, but I'd prefer if this were done with care in a workshop setting. I can't really replace it after all.

Default I really dig streaked horn

As far as posh scales go, this is probably the one material I genuinely like. It's still primarily dark, but it has visual texture to it.

Yes, a Tuckmar and a Le Grelot are orbiting it right now.. They got too close and were sucked in.

Might as well put this up here as well. I try to document all the cool shaving-related stuff I get on my YT channel. Have some fun early in the video hiding an everyday item behind it, protecting President Lincoln, and making a big Wade & Butcher look like a grooming blade.

I knocked the corrosion that had texture off of the spine, blade faces and tail. Condition of steel beneath is really excellent. I also had a crack at measuring it again having used a tape measure to stretch my paper ruler. It is a bit over 10/8.
