eBay buy - Wade & Butcher Anchor
Bought an old Wade & Butcher Anchor razor on ebay. It's not in the best condition but hopefully will clean up ok with a bit of work. I asked the seller about the mark at the toe and if it was a crack and he guarantees its not, so I'm protected with Paypal buyer protection on that front.
Not sure if it will end up shaveable, but if not it's still something nice to add to my new and modest collection.
I probably overpaid, but these don't seem to come up too often so I thought Id get one while I can.

Thanked: 20That is going to be fun to clean up. I love razors like this, and get the most enjoyment out of them.

Hi, Im new to this forum... the last post about Phrank, is this some running joke ( ie buys everything), or does he collect the anchor razors? Im just asking because I'd love to know more about this razor , the only thing I can find is that it's likely pre 1850 and perhaps birmingham steel rather than sheffield? And don't seem to be many floating around, and would love to know more.

Thanked: 3226Andrew
Phrank has been happily engaged in buying his favourite brand, W&B, lately so it is a bit of an in house standing joke about getting one before Phrank does. IIRC he does have an Anchor stamped W&B too. You have a good base to work with there and should be able to restore it nicely.

Like your signature BobH...no man is totally useless, they can always be used as a bad example.

This razor is now with Glen (gssixgun) for restoration. Scales couldn't be saved so he's making some new ones from Lignum vitae with brass wedge. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Glen was very helpful throughout communication in helping me decide what to do with the restoration, provided plenty of options and honest opinion, yet didn't push me to do what he would like to do, he gave me the options and advice to allow me to decide for myself.
It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice
