Just won on Fleabay, "Butlers Famous Yorskire bite"...
vintage Butler's Keen Razor in original box
There's a tip of the scales missing, and the blade looks slightly chipped, but I can't wait for Thursday now.~ Dave ~ ... back to lurking...

It looks like it should clean up nicely. The chips don't look bad and shouldn't be a problem honing out, but like any vintage can't really tell till it hits the stones.

Thanked: 4827It looks very save-able. You could get a new or different set of scales, hone and shave. How far you go on the cleanup on that one is a personal choice. The black spots are rust, but will go for a long time with them left there.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

It's not the first straight I've had that's needed chips honing out and a de-rusting, and I doubt it'll be the last.

There's lots of razor there to work with, that should be a real beauty. Nice buy.
Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.

Can always paint clear nail polish on the etch while you attack the surrounding areas then remove it afterwards with acetone if youre unsure. Nice find, I like the etch

Well, the razor was delivered today, and I'm impressed with it already. It's a fairly hefty chunk of steel, a good 6/8 blade. Have some before and after photos...
Am I right in thinking that it's a wedge?~ Dave ~ ... back to lurking...
