Thanked: 40Today's Haul: Some big Filis, a mysterious 15/16 razor, and Wade and Butcher
I got some beautiful razors in the mail today, and could not help but post some pics.
In first photo from left to right:
Wade & Butcher the Celebrated Hollow Ground Razor 7/8
Filarmonica 14 Medallon Taurino ("Vda J. Mosteiro Cuchilleria La Coruna") 7/8
Filarmonica 14 Sub Cero 6/8
Ongo (14 Solingen) 15/16 at widest point
The razors will require some cleanup and I will need to even some of them out on the hone. The Fili Taurino has more hone wear towards the toe, while the the Sub Cero has more hone wear towards the heel. I might need to take a little off the respective toe/heel to set the bevel. Likewise, I will definitely need to use a layer of tape while honing.
The Sub cero has a piece missing from the end of the razor near the pivot, but it still closes (at least for now) without problems and the pin still is intact.
I wonder if the Ongo 14 razor is another one of alleged razors that shares with, or is made from, the Fili 14 blanks? This one should not be that hard to hone because it has a curved profile, much like an old Sheffield blade.
Finally, the Wade & Butcher, though rusty right now, has a nice shape to the blade and does not appear to have bad honewear. It should clean up well.
It should take me awhile to clean everything up, but I will post some pics.

Thanked: 40I finished restoring the Ongo Solingen 14 15/16. I hand sanded it up to 12,000 and then honed it on a Naniwa Superstone 1k, Norton 4 and 8k, and a Chinese PHIG. Finished up by giving it a few laps on some latigo leather with chrox paste, and followed by 25 laps on linen and 40 laps on horse butt leather. The razor is easily popping hairs.
