Been looking for something like this for almost two years, had it saved as a search and everything, but stumbled upon something similar.
Gentleman, may I present to you the English cousin I gather of the Griffon Strop Aide....which has alluded me all this time.:D
The is The Gransen, Metallic Razor Strop Preparer, one side lead, the other side aluminum....looks in pretty nice condition, wonder how old this thing is?

Now that is cool and what a find!!
That is a cool find phrank! I remember reading about the lead rubbing back then as well. Good on ya for finding one. Goes on the cloth I presume or the backside of the leather?
That's what I'm thinking...going to see if there's anything I can actually read about it...but figure it's pretty straight forward...although I'm wondering if the thinking is preparing the back of two strops? Or one rubbing on the back of the leather, the other on some linen - listing said lead first, then the aluminum...know what the lead is supposed to do, but the aluminum ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have never used these but thought the lead went on your leather like CROX. The aluminium would be like rubbing the strop with a bottle etc.
I wonder if it works like lead used to work when it was added to petroleum, most engines relied on the lead content to provide lubrication in the cylinders. That is before unleaded fuel and catalytic converters though. Could be interesting to see it's role?
I'm not a fan of coticule, but for $40 a nice barber size coti is on its way. So lag 16 is worth trying?? I may or may not be able to make my own likker, all grain is on my to do list...
