A couple of years ago there was once again a Push to Remove the Washington State Liquor Control Board. The State had a Monopoly on the sale of Hard Liquor.

Well while it sounded like a 'Good Idea' and the General Consenses was that with getting the state out of the liquor business prices would plummet.

Unlike so many, I read the fine print of the item to be voted on and I voted NO!

Alas the item passed anyway.

Ok--Just like buying toilet paper, soap or any other non edible item in Washington State, the price tag on the shelf below the item doesn't show what that item will cost with tax.

So the bottle of booze says that it's $10. The customer picks it up and takes it to the checkout for purchase the clerk rings up the booze and the total is now $13.03 as there is an 8% sales tax AND a 22.5% hard liquor tax.

You see when the State Stores displayed a liquor the tag showed the Total Cost.

People are still bitching and I've Never talked to Anyone who will fess up to actually voting for taking liquor out of the hands of the state.

Lagavulin 16 is $122 here. The 8 year is $99 and the 12 year is $159.

I can't get the 12 locally, but could have it shipped to my front door for $175........ I'll stick to the 16. It's worth every penny IMO.

A friend and fellow member here at SRP offered to make one for me. It landed today and I'm just tickled Shiteless! It's solidly made, and it's very well finished. I've got it in my auto dishwasher ready to be cleaned up and sanitized so it's ready to join the rest of it's buddies to help make some sausage! :y

Great, most of the stuffers come with a shitty plastic one and to get it with a .metal Stouffer the price really jumps . and for what, a thin tube.

I like this though because it shows how much the state is taxing you. If the state was still running it they would hide the taxes in the total price and people wouldn't realize how much they were being taxed.

Did the taxes change from before this was passed?

It's my understanding that Nothing 'Really' Changed/Taxwise!

Well with the exception of all of the people who had been employed by the state in the liquor stores losing their jobs, health insurance, retirement and financial stability. No nothing else changed. :shrug:

Yes, once again, the taxpayers got swindled by a slick marketing campaign. Nobody seems to read the fine print, eh Cuda? :deal:

They wanted to be the ones selling the product and receiving the funds! Plain and Simple!

They knew that there was a 'hidden' tax that most voters wouldn't pick up on.

So there (as far as I'm concerned is the 'Swindle') my friend.

So you are saying that breaking the states monopoly on liqueur sales showed that although the state was making the profit AND the taxes proved that their business model was not viable with competition.
