I have to admit that I was turned off by the plastic scales at first (I thought all scales should be made of natural materials). Then I learned that plastic/synthetic scales are a long standing and traditional material for scales and I had to have them.

Funny thing is, I kept trying to talk Don at Straight Razor Designs into selling me a more expensive Dovo and he kept steering my to the basic Ralf Aust. He kept saying that the Aust was better, regardless of the price.

So, thank you for your encouraging words. I am very excited about entering into the world of straight razor shaving!

After losing many razors to snipers, this was my first successful snipe. Hope I didn't beat one of you guys out.

This one might have to go to one of the pros here for restore. I really don't want to screw this one up.

I probably overpaid. I'm a real rookie at this, but I really wanted this razor. It'll be my 3rd Wostenholm. My first came from Wolfpack here and is a beautiful restored 1850-1890 5/8 extra hollow. My second was my first ebay SR purchase as a buy it now that was the first razor I made shave ready myself. Can't wait for this one.

Oh, and I paid $68. If I did overpay, I don't really care that much. It's all part of the learning process...and it's only $68.

If it's what you wanted then you didn't over pay. They don't make these anymore you know. I think they have class and to think who may have owned it. all in the allure of these classic items.

I've seen worse & you didn't get taken really bad. It is a nice looking razor & looks like it has a nice width to it but the main thing is that "you're happy" & that "you're content " with your buy. Sometimes ya gotta snipe the things ya want or you won't get 'em! And........you're right, it's a learning process but if you are patient enough, you will really love it when you find one sometime that you'll actually make one hell of a deal on because someone might be watching it & the phone will ring or someone will interrupt them when they are getting ready to bid! If you are making a manual bid, you want to make sure you don't have very many windows open, & your cache is cleared out & that you have a good amount of ram in your computer. I have 8 gb's ram so it's pretty fast! Now they have 'em where some have 16 gb's ram which is smoking' fast!

Thanks for the advise engine. I'll definitely keep it in mind. I already have it lined up for restore with someone here I trust. Just going to have to decide how far I want to take it once I see it in person.

I don't like to be someone who goes crazy on bids paying way over value just because I want something, and by no means am I a man with money to burn, but I'm not opposed to paying a little more than perceived value if I find something that really catches my eye.

I'm that way. I will pay a little more for a much more quality item than just a cheaper version if I can afford to. It's like tape. Before I buy a generic brand, I'll buy 3M.

Generally the generic is as good or better than the name brand.

Sometimes. It depends on what it is. I have used generic tape that didn't hold up as well as the 3M but it was the double sided red tape used for holding medallions on vehicles.I used that as an example. Now shipping tape is another story.

Electrical tape too. Scotch (3M) 33 or nothing.

Murf, nice looking razor. Should scrub up nice, but the etch may be lost depending how deep it is. A fair price.

Got a very nice looking Goldedge on the way, a bit embarrassed to say how much it was. Equivalent to about US $35. Looks to have little or no hone wear. First one I have seen for sale down here and if it shaves as good as my Satinedge I will be happy. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a blood letting instrument like Phranks one..... [emoji30]

Two Bengalls. 1 cast steel and 1 rather standard thay appears to have some supplier? Etching on 1 side and the grind on the other.

Yep! I used my Shapton diamond lapping plate. I wasn't bad mouthing your purchase or anything like that! Sorry if it was misunderstood.

So far the Allright has been a beast to lap. :rofl2: spent 45 min on my DMT 325 with a constant flow of water. Now to do the same with the other and progress to 1200 grit and possibly Vaseline. I am really surprised on how hard these barber hones are. Ha here goes another 2 to 4 hrs of fun. :gwh::gth

ah, I assumed you were saying you always buy 3M , ie: 3m duct tape, double sided 3m purrdy much has the market

Not in the mail anymore as I just opened the box, but I'm stoked about this delivery. I was just about to run out when someone on the Big Shave facebook group told me the secret of how to order this even though the Dominica page on the website still says it's sold out.

EDIT - Never mind the secret. I just checked and it doesn't show sold out anymore.

I remember old spice being overpowering and unmiistakable
could you recommend a clean scent aftershave .. well that made since to me well that doesn't reek , they can't smell you a mile away with 2 drops and yet still has a scent

It obviously has a crown and either VR or WR stamp as well, oriented 90° to the WB and to the left. That's not often seen.

Actually only the bu on the butcher is not clear. Its the stamp that can't be seen before that that I haven't seen before. The money shot for you.

I have several. The crown is for Royalty. It either says WR or VR. Most of the say WR & is for William Rex who reigned as King of UK from 1830-1837 when he died & VR is for Queen Victoria who was Queen from 1837-1901 until her death.
