1700s warburton lisbon stubtail
I picked this beauty up today in an antique store in historic Chester, Vermont. all signs point to late 1700s. blade is wedge shaped front on, side view and tapers from tip to ultra thin tail, cutting edge and tang flow as one. scales look like someone refinished them at some point, shiny copper pins and smooth sanded wood. straight shape but likely replacements. awesome piece to see and hold, im just stoked to have found it in the wild! Lisbon stamp places it as made by Thomas warburton? or perhaps William as this doesn't have thomas' star in the logo?

haha, you and me both. im out of town right now and I decided right before I left to leave my hones at home. im kicking myself now! it wont be til Monday or so before I get to try her out. the bevel on this one looks so good, no discernable issues. itll take 5-10 minutes tops to whip it into shape. I was surprised how much bite the edge had as found.

Thanked: 4249Great find in the wild! I would say its from Thomas Warburton, Gales & Martin shows the stamp with a cross on top of Lisbon but all the one ive seen are marked Lisbon or Lisbon cast steel.
And at a certain point in time his blades were marked Warburton. Enjoy!

That is a beaut and 1700s for sure IMHO. Plenty of blade there and ought to shave great. I'd be on the lookout for some straight horn to dress him up in something appropriate to the period.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
