Hi REZDog,
I had no idea that it was a rigging tool! apparently my grandmother gave it to me when I was a child and my mother took it from me as she thought I was a little too young to have a knife! I know my grandmothers brother was in the navy years ago, but would not know if all the dates match or anything. I have no idea when that type of tool was used??A Leopard never changes it spots....fact!

It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Great story!
I had mentioned to a couple of friends I was into straight razors. So in the span of two weeks, three friends gave me three Gillette adjustable safety razors, two fat boys and one slim. Two were still in the original plastic cases.
They just figured they were old and gave them to me. Aside from a little dirt, gave them a good soak in barbicide for ten minutes and cleaned them up with some toothpaste and they work perfectly....popped a blade and watched the mechanism raise and lower the blade.
Have yet to try one, they aren't "old" to me...

Always great to hear that another family treasure is going to get a new lease on life. I'm sure all of use would like to know that our sons or grandsons or nephews will be using one our ours years from now.
If you get a chance post more pics and details, including the riggers knife.
Thanks for sharing.

yes we were issued those knives in the US Navy as well. Like RezDog said,,,, blade is for cutting, spike is for knots. I lost track of mine but I'm very sure whoever handed it down to you is smiling right now....that knife spent alot of time in your family members pocket going around the globe! cherish it.

You'll need to learn to splice rope now to utilise the knife for a bit also.
Saved,
to shave another day.
