Default Returning to DE shaving; ended up finding 2 straights

    Hello,

A few days ago, I ran out of my last cartridge refill, and I went shopping for new ones, only to AGAIN be blasted by the damn price. I said "THAT'S ENOUGH!" Yesterday I went cruising several local antique stores, and I made a few purchases.

First, I found a brand new shavette and DE at a beauty supply house - $10 each. They had some DE blades as well, so I snagged a few of each. Next, I hit a couple of grocery stores and a couple of pharmacies, where I found additional DE blades. Then I used my phone to find several local antique stores.

Struck gold on my first stop, but didn't buy anything until I hit all of them. Then I went to lunch, made sure I was ready for this change, and then I went back to store number one, haggled over price, and bought two straights for $50! See pics for details. Both are very nice, but one is a REAL beauty. The store owner had several straights, and a nice collection of DE's as well, but all the other straights had blade damage. One of the two that I purchased has a crappy handle repair, but the blade itself is perfect.

I also hit a store in the mall and picked up a new brush and some sandlewood shave cream. I will start with the DE, then transition to the straights. Man I'm excited! I've shaved with DE's before, but never a straight. I've been watching lots of videos online, and I am going to start with the shavette and see how it goes.

Question: I want to send both of these to someone to sharpen and clean them up. I have a contact in Seattle that gets rave reviews, but I think he mostly does knives - not specifically razors. So, I'm looking for a reference, please.

    Thanks!

    Jim

Good looking razors. Be sure to have them honed by a pro. Go the the classifieds and then member services. Plenty of great guys out there.
