Genco buying spree!
I've got a fever... And the only prescription... IS MORE GENCO! So I recently posted a thread about a purchase of a Genco Fluid Steel in good shape that's in the mail. Having lost a few auctions on eBay for some nice razors I was interested in, I decided to check out Etsy, my ever so loyal provider. There I happened on these two babies. The off white scales is a Genco 5/8 Fluid Steel in need of some TLC but not in terrible shape for sure. The marbled yellow scales is a Genco 6/8 model B2, professionally honed and in nice shape. Good lord they were both good deals, I just couldn't say no! Hopefully my wife agrees
cant wait to get them! I plan on restoring the fluid steel and making some nice scales for it, maybe flame or quilted maple. I'd like to do satin finish on the tang and spine back, and mirror polish on the blade face."Try something the old way every once in a while. Thanked: 522I have quite a few Gencos in my collection. Every one of them is a great shaver when properly honed. You may like to focus on Torrey razors made in Mass. They are every bit as good or better quality than Genco razors. Most U S made vintage razors are of the highest quality. Geneva and W R Case are two more examples. There are more.............

I love Gencos and Geneva razors (name before they switched to Genco). They hone easily and take a nice edge, nice scores above.

Thanked: 459So, you're one of the people making it more difficult for me to get a good deal on a geneva,ny razor.
I don't know where ontario cutlery stuff is made, but the razors look a little funny and then turn around and shave GREAT. Some of my keenest shaves have come from carbon steel razors made by ontario cutlery, cmon (presume that's a different part of NY for the NY made stuff) and gencos.
Sadly, I've sold them all off.
Used to be people didn't really recognize their value, and now it seems that other than the CMONs, the others have gone up quite a bit making it harder for me to mooch one for cheap!

I tell ya, I have three in the mail right now, including those two in the post. I got pretty lucky with two of them. One was just me willing to pay a little more for it. In the end it was still an incredible value considering it was polished and professionally honed.

I have a Genco Easy Aces with cracked ice scales. Love the way it shaves.

Thanked: 169I had a fluid steel and a 7n. Genco steel is extremely hard and tricky to get just right on the hones but when you do, it takes a wicked edge.
