Thanked: 169I honed it today actually. Most of my blades are smiling ones so I needed to learn fast. Windshield wiper strokes, pigtail strokes and rolling x are your friends with them. This one is a trickier blade than it appears but nothing being mindful of angles doesn't solve. I just need to take it through one last finishing step.

Thanked: 169The steel at the toe was a bit microchippy, but I think I got through to the good stuff. I finally got to a point where it was behaving on the finer hones so I took it to the strop to really make sure since I find the linen component can really expose that issue and it still seems ok. I am going to push the edge a touch more. Sheffield steel is actually easier to hone when the blade is still a near wedge imo. It takes more time, but when it is hollow like this you have to be mindful that it isn't brutally hard. Someone who was very inexperienced could eat a ton of steel in a hurry I think.

I tried Googling things like "Printable square ruler", "printable square scale" & a couple others & found a lot of possibilities but when I went to print one out, it filled the whole page which was larger than normal!
