Mine was had for 14.50. As Richard said, sweet little thing. Really hollow ground and can be easily honed and stropped on any hone or strop.

The rolls razor has a hone on one lid & a strop on the other. You take the strop lid off to hone the razor but be easy on it because the blade flops on each stroke & you can crack the hone. You do this for 60 double strokes. You then put the trop lid back on & remove the hone lid & strop it for 30 seconds backward & forward depending how fast you are. You then twist & pull the blade off & install on the shaving handle to shave with. Whatever you do, do not operate the hone w/o the blade in it or the point that holds the blade on will damage the hone. I can scan the instructions into my computer & email them to you if you like. It's a pretty impressive razor setup in one metal box. BTW, the two digits on the flat side of the blade are the year of manufacture.

Harry, Looks like you have 2 different Rolls there. The number 2, is the standard issue, but the Number 1 is a Silver Plate model, Be gentle polishing it so you don't burn through the plating! I have the instructions scanned into a PDF file if you ever want a copy. They are good razors. Be careful closing the lids though, as THAT is where the damage happens to the hone and strop.

There's one on eBay, I think I'll try to snipe it. I hope the bidder isn't on here!

On second thought, it is an older one but I can see some of the silver plating coming off & there is no handle so he can have it.

The rolls are great, IF the blade is close. If not, all the whacking in the world will not help. The setup is to maintain a shaver, not to make one. I had a good one and gave it to a buddy who was afraid of it. I have a few more and have figured a way to get a handle on it (I think!) to hone it with. Otherwise, you have to use the fingers. No fun, but can be done. They shave the dickens when right!

I have 3 altogether but I figure you know this. To get the blade back on the mounting point, push & twist. Same to remove it, twist & pull! Being a straight razor guy, I think they're cool! A self contained razor, hone & strop!

Yes! Those little springy things with the ears which goes over the shaft and keeps the blade tight are important and are sometimes broken. It keeps the blade tight and true. On occasion, they come through ebay as replacement parts. Lots of neat quirks to the rolls. I suppose someone would have to know what they were doing to use one. Otherwise, just closing the thing up results in damage! Plenty around for parts, though. Magpie is an expert on them!
