    Default Great grandfathers Razors

Hey there, I'm relatively new to these forums. Let me start out with I'm 30 years old and just started shaving with straight razors within the last 3 weeks or so, I was afraid to shave with the razors I received from my grandfather so I purchased a shavett and loved it now I'm moving on to the real thing. My grandfather had a talk with me when I was about 13 years old, although it was a long time ago I still remember it. He gave me a wooden box with a bunch of razors in it and told me to keep them, they were his fathers and they were collectors items that he sometimes shaved with also. He recently passed away and I remembered the razors so I finally found them and they didn't look like I remembered them. Because I was so young my mother stored them for me so I didn't hurt myself with them and well they needed some TLC. Luckily I'm a knife collector and knew how to restore some of them so I did. I just wanted to see if they are worth restoring further or should I just leave them. the ones I was concerned about I left for the end. I will enjoy your feedback,Thanks.

Those look like some nice razors!
To restore them is up to you.
From what I see all of them look in pretty good shape. (except the one with the chip)

If you would like to restore them that would be cool.
If not that is cool also.
To have family heirlooms is quite awesome and I would treasure them.

Of course they are worth fixing up.... And because they are from your family they will be worth passing down someday. You obviously have some broken blades that won't fix but the rest look good. Oh, except for the big fat one that looks dangerous. Better send that one to me and save yourself now before it cuts you :<0)

You have treasure there. take care of it.

Welcome to SRP. Nice collection your grandfather, and by extension, your great grand father left to you. Maybe get your favorite two or three pro honed, unless you are a honer yourself. That way you'll have a little rotation to work with. IME that is the best way to go about it.

    Awesome gift. Treasure it.

Look up "cell rot" in the search feature. Looks like one of your razors may have it.

If that razor stays in proximity with any of the other razors, it will wreck them too.

Welcome and nice inheritance you have
Maybe someone nearby you can catch up and check them all out for you, and help work the best path forward for you to get them up and running again
If there is cell rot definitely quarantine the effected razors from our others
    Saved,
    to shave another day.

The collection that your grandfather gave you is wonderful way to bond your family together. Something to pass along your lineage. Use them enjoy them and when its your turn pass them along your line. This is something real special here.
    Enjoy them

Thanks for the advice, I've never herd of cell rot, I just read up on it, yes they have all been in the same box for the better part of 30 years, I assume your talking about either the red one on the top corner, i didn't attempt to clean it up because it has "red rust" all over it and all over the inside of the scales and I've never seen red rust before. the next one down had regular rust all over it and the blade literally fell apart. 2 questions about cell rot, from the description of it, it seems like its only the scales, can they be replaced if the blade is still good?, and will a plastic baggy contain it or should I just pitch it?
