There's a crack in the scales I'm told...would also like to know if the scales are original...if they're original, I will keep them.

What does it say on the tang Phrank ? I am scraping the rust off one now that just has the name W.GreavesandSon's Nothing else.
Stubby looking with a more pointed spine like yours ? This one is red though

Just got it Saturday night from eBay, seller say's he will ship it out this morning....there was more auction pics, not great though.

Thanks Richard - those do look like the scales....hopefully I can keep them then.

Here's the only other decent pic from the auction:

The scales definitely aren't original, but look very old and nicely made.

The razor is, IMHO, from 1815-1825, give or take

    Oughta shave like a champ!

Nice that you bought it. As you have the grandson on the hook, try to get a name, history of the man. It is valuable to the razor!
It would seem the grandson of the original owner should be long deceased. More history to this?

    Good snag.

If that ol razor was mine, it'd get its face washed a bit, honed up, and it would wear the same scales it's got on now. At least as long as I owned it.
