Thanked: 1184Strop/Hone with a surprise inside.
So I saw this Strop/hone/storage piece by American Hone and couldn't pass it up. It had a razor inside and I didn't know what it was until I won it and asked. W&B is all I got back. Well turned out to be a great deal. I was honestly hoping the hone was grey :<0) Turns out to be brown but very smooth. Will find out Wolfpack's opinion when he gets his hands on it. Feels and looks like a barbers hone to me. A lot like a ruby.
Snaps on both ends, holds a razor inside. Will have to replace 1 as it's missing and may do both to make them match.
Have to clean up the hone some more. Here I went at it a few strokes with a small wire brush and it started to scratch so I grabbed some 1500g and did some circles to take that out. The things you do when your anxious geeez.
Here is where the razor is kept.
And if it weren't for the staining and a few hone marks I would swear this razor was almost new. 7/8 W&B. I want to think it was on this hone to finish a factory edge and then got dropped . The wedge end is apart on the backside and only 1 side has any hone marks on it.
The backside is very clean. Polish and then a look under the loupe will tell more.
I am going to restore the whole kit and keep it together. Looks like they have been for a looong time already .
Thanks for looking.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

They are good barber hones and the leather should be cleaned and it makes a good strop.
Mine came with a later Henckles Twinwerks.
Always a nice surprise. Another type came with a Torrey!
Great finds!
Watch for shoe brushes with a zipper on the upper leather. They often contained full grooming kits.
Have fun!

Thanked: 1184Thanks for the kind words guys :<0)
The leather has a bad case of dry rot. I just happen to have some horse and it shouldn't be too hard to burnish a piece that big to a fine smooth surface. I have been meaning to get some rosewood and make a wheel. The strop that's on there feels like a nice shell.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
