    Angry Remember this?

It was way back in January when I purchased my first straight razor. I decided to commemorate the event by having the razor undergo custom restoration. gssixgun agreed to take on the project, and here's the result:

8/8 W&B Celebrated Hollow Ground, polished, but kept the etch so there is still a little wear and tear left
Scales: Irish Bog Oak @ .105" thick, pressure treated twice using Daly's SeaFin
    Wedge: Brass Lined Amber
    Pins: Brass
Honing: Chosera 1-5-10 Select Coticule finisher

I asked Glen to leave the blade with some of its well-earned character left; I think that he really pulled it off. The bog oak is approximately 5000 years old! Glen came up with the idea for the amber wedge, since it's age compliments the old wood; I love it!

And check out Glen's sweet, skinny bevel... the entire edge looks like that...both sides!

Very nice, love the aged look to it with scales etc
Are the stainless on brass triple stacked washers made to suit or standard sized ones to get the even steps if so what sizes are they as the ones I have have a bigger step from the narrow to wide sizes
Where did you get the bog oak materials from?

Glen will have to answer the hardware question... I haven't got a clue!

I located an Irish vendor on eBay who sold bog oak, but his wood was sized as pen blanks. I had my heart set on Irish wood, so I wrote to him and he was nice enough to custom cut a piece for me.

    Default *DOH!*

I forgot to say that the razor shaves like a dream!

Before this, I'd never shaved with such a large, heavy blade. And this is my first smiling blade, too. So now I'm facing a bit of a quandary: do I like this razor because it's big, because it's heavy, because it's a smiler, or because of Glen's fine honing?

Maybe I'll forget all that, and just enjoy the shaving!

I bet that razor is as happy to go back to work as you are to use it :<0) Good call all the way around on materials and how it turned out.

Glen has posted his shopping list for washers. >>> http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...fasteners.html

    Great looking old razor reinvigorated..
Awesome job, again Glen. And the amber? Great complimentary material for the brass and swamp wood.
I was looking at bog oak on eBay when I restored an Irish point in the spring.
I opted for blackthorn, another Irish staple and while it turned out well, I do want to revisit the bog oak on another project. Do you remember the seller you used?
    Enjoy the shave!

Blackthorn sounds wonderful, too! And I bet that it did turn out well.

Yes, I do have contact info for the vendor. I'm sending it to you via PM.
