    Default Kama and Emil Janssen

Two new local finds today at an antique store. I don't think they have seen much if any use and came with the original coffins that were in good shape. The Kama is slightly larger than 5/8 and the Janssen is 11/16. The scales on the Janssen have a slight warp on one side causing the blade to hit that scale if you don't guide it in. Did as little as possible to try and preserve the gold on the blades. They still need a honing tonight.

Very nice finds. If you want to try and straighten the scales on the warped on you can use a blow dryer. I have done that with something wedged in the scales to hold it where I want it or using slight pressure with my fingers to keep moving it till I get it the way I want it. Once it is where it needs to be can place a ice pack on it to stiffen the scales again. Sometimes you might have to do it a few times to get it perfect, but other than removing the scales to do it I find it safer than sticking them in hot/boiling water.

Thanks Glen and it is good to know that the Kamas are smooth shavers. The only fly in that ointment is that it is me honing it and not you. Fingers crossed, just finished it so we will see what the morning brings.

Everyone's opinion of the Kama seems to be correct from this mornings shave which was smooth and close.
