    Default Keep these scales?

So... keep these, rescale or try and refinish them. They do need to be repinnedName: Fredricks sheffield .jpg

My vote is restore and keep. They look nice from the pic provided.

If they are not cracked or badly de-laminating then re-store... often times however when you go to de-pin them you get the definitive answer

something you can try when removing old pins -- you can generally saw through the old pin with one of these. Having the razor apart makes the process a little less risky. I promise you, though -- you can still break the scales, there's just a smaller chance.

Oh -- it's only called a razor saw because of its shape.

Nice, I have unpinned a few with a dremel that has worked great! But I see where that could apply as well

Frank, I have used this in the past for really difficult/valuable scales work pretty good but like you say it isn't a 100% option

I find a pin vise and sharp 1/16" drill bit chucked up very short is tough to beat for removing pins without scale damage. Oh...and patience!
