    Default Otto Deutsch Hans

Here is a Otto Deutsch Hans I won for a good deal! The first pic is the eBay pic. The next ones are after I wiped the crud off of it which the seller failed to do. After this, I will then clean it up real good & polish the blade. I think the blade will clean up well.

Nice score. I recently read somewhere that they were made by Bresnick, perhaps Goins, as I was reading it yesterday. I'm sure you will have it looking it's best in no time.

Yes they are another duck brand razor. I own 2 of them, both are great shavers.

    Thanks Shaun
At first when I looked at the ebay pic, I didn't know if the scales had damage where you see the spot above the maker name but when I got it today, I took a soapy sponge & cleaned it off & the scales along with the name cleaned up so I should be able to make it shine like my Boker Imperial I showed awhile back. I'll do some before & after pics of it. After it cleaned up like it did, I was happy to see that it will be a good cleaner upper. I'll probably remove the blade to polish it. I might be able to hand polish the scales, name tag & bolsters with some Mothers. I have used Mothers on scales before & it works good.

Nice score. I used to want one of those badly, but they are so prone to cell rot that I never went for one. In nice condition they are usually pricey so you may have dodged the bullet in more ways than one. I'd keep it away from the rest of the herd until I was sure it was stable. A bit of a quarantine as it were.

Yeah, I was going to put it in it's own bull pen away from the others because i'm aware of the cell rot, especially on the translucent scales. These are black but that's no guarantee. Thanks Jimmy!

I heard & read they are part of the duck family so that explains the cell rot on those as well.

I thought they were the green scales. Those are not infrequently prone to the dreaded rot. I've not seen cell rot in black scales, so you may be free and clear.

I know which ones you mean, the dark green ones. They look nice but I have seen some on the bay that were perfect & i have seen the ones that had cell rot. I haven't seen the black ones do it either but I think I will still keep it away from the rest of 'em just in case. It pays to be safe than sorry!

Really watch the color of the blade along and above the bevel as you clean it and start to polish it. Any of the Bresnick blades can get you. They could often get a very fine internal rot between the metal crystals. It looks like a red-brownish haze but really wrecked one I bought that looked great. Get it sharp and a week later it was hazy and dull. The wedge was often a culprit on them also.
I hope you got one of the really good ones! Best of luck to you!
