Thanked: 2591I suspected that was the meaning, but I am not sure that if the measurement of a 13/16 blade is taken from the contact line that one gets a 6/8, it will depend on the individual blade. I'll check tonight.
In any case all Japanese blades are standard, 13/16 measured from the spine, with some 4/8 available for, I assume, detailed work.Stefan

Indeed, I meant depending on whether or not the spine was included in the measurement. I have a Selmour (which I strongly believe to be German made for export to Japan rather than Japanese made) that measures 6/8 excluding the spine and 13/16 including the spine. It has the typical 'Japanese' grind i.e. a relatively narrow heel with a single stabilizer, full hollow, with a muted square point (like Optometrist's Mitsuon in disco scales).
