Thanked: 2Couple questions
Attachment 199959Attachment 199960I just received 2 razors from my wife's grandfather who passed away 2 years ago and I have a couple questions about them. One is a "red imp" 12 in ok shape. The scales aren't in the best shape but usable. The other is an "adoration de luxe" numbered 666. This one is a full hollow grind and sounds a little thin at the edge. So what says you guys?Attachment 199958

I'm not able to see the pics. I've had a few Red Imps (Case and a Morris)and they are great shavers. I also have an Adoration that's also a great razor. I have no experience with the adoration deluxe but I've been keeping an eye out for one. They're great looking and G&F are a known quality manufacturer. Try to repost the pictures so we can see them.

I don't know much about Red Imp razors, apart that they were first made by Morris & Sons in Solingen, later by Case in the US.
You're probably right on the Giesen & Forsthoff being very thin. I have an Adoration De Luxe 666, and it is one of my thinnest ground razors, bordering on being too flexible. It is as challenging in use as it is pretty.

Thanked: 2I removed the pins on the red imp and have started to clean it up. Needs a good honing. The adoration is still pretty sharp but probably not shave sharp. Gonna get that one honed soon and start using it. The scales on the imp are pretty warped and they might have shortened a bit because the blade won't close without wedging between the wedge and scales.

Thanked: 2Already pulled the pins. Have been heating in water to reform but again the blade seems longer than the scales by about 1/8th inch.

Okay so next take an emery board or flat file and SLOWLY shorten the wedge. It may still be glued in place. Do you have an1/8 to give?
Lastly is it a removable wedge? Or is it the same color as the scales? sometime the toe wedge is 2 halfs that interlock.
That will determine how to proceed.Last edited by ultrasoundguy2003; 05-05-2015 at 01:17 AM.
