    thats definitely one of the reasons i held off. i havnt been intentionally buying anything that has ivory, esp from out of country. part of what "pre ban" means in the states before the ban

    NY state makes you jump through so many hoops it isn't funny and it applies even to mammoth ivory. Here, even if it is pre ban, it can't make up more than 20% of the item in composition if you wish to sell it even if you have all your paperwork in order. It's crazy. There are exemptions for things like old pianos.

    I'm bound to try eventually. I am thinking so long as you choke up on the tang, it will behave like a big, swooping Sheffield with sketchy balance. The thing is 11/8 and if it is typical French steel, probably capable of taking a vicious edge. Not a normal shaving experience.
