Default Four new old razors- to practice with

I purchased these razors specifically to try and learn to hone with. It looked like a good listing for razors without major issues that needed to be corrected, and as a group they went for a pretty reasonable price. They will also be good for me to learn to clean up a razor on.

These seem like pretty good solid everyday razors. I don’t plan on sending them out for work, as I have my other razors to shave with, and compare the edges with. Did I find anything special here?

Those will be good to practice with. once there cleaned up and honed they'll probably be good to use. good deal.

looks like a nice score. should be good to learn on. the Spike has some wear but should be able to save it.(they are great shavers IMHO)

You should find that Elliot to be a wonderful shaver..I love mine! The Ontario is a winner also.

This is my favorite of the bunch. I like the scales and inlay, and the blade is pretty clean too.

Forgot to post this- Descriptions of the razors:
    • WM Elliot & Co 224, horn scales with calf roper inlay- Loose pivot pin, but usable once cleaned up, pin tightened, and honed.
    • The Sensation- Ross W. Black Pittsburg. Faux Ivory scales with bolsters. Pin is good, scales are a little warped. Needs clean up and hone.
    • Spike- Union Cutlery Co. Olean, N.Y.- Green Plastic Scales. This one has pretty heavy hone wear, but it should still be good to clean and hone.
    • Ontario Cutlery Co, Geneva, NY U.S.A- Loose pivot pin, has more rust on blade than the others, and some corrosion on the pin heads. White plastic scales, that are absolutely filthy inside. Clean up, tighten the pin and hone.

The Spike has more hone wear that would be ideal, the good news is it looks pretty even. They look like great candidates for your purposes and should work out well as prime shavers in the end. Nice planning.
