Default PRC Kraken 6/8 french point modified...........

Well the long anticipated PRC Kraken came in today! I was very pleased with the packing and the box it came in. The item was in the silicone sleeve with a layer of cotton type padding with a silica packet to boot in the box! The razor was flawless in my estimation and doing the thumb pad test to the blade it seems to be well honed and ready for shaving.

This is what I had modified to the base Kraken............simple, extended jimps along the top tang and black buffalo horn scales. It is a beauty to me and a hefty piece of course. The blade is a thick bar stock unlike most I have seen. The blades movement is straight and tight as one would expect and centers just fine. The razors edge is crazy straight and uniform like no other even of my best Germans!

The proof is in the pudding and I am anxiously awaiting a shave this evening but the one photo is my setup for the evening! I could not wait to post my first impressions of a sweeeeet razor and yes, if it shaves as well as it looks, more will be had!

So to Scott and Hunter................job well done on the razor and will update here on the shave when I get around to it. I am telling you folks that PRC makes one nice razor as far as craftsmanship for sure. Hoping this hefty blade cuts through the facial hair like a well honed samurai sword!

She is a gorgeous piece of kit. And you are spot on about the heft of the new bar stock . . . quite substantial. Cannot wait for the review.

    Congratulations.

Just shaved with this beauty about an hour ago and here is my take.........coming from German razors that are full hollow ground this was a very different shave to me. Almost like that of a wedge from what I have read how a wedge shaves. I really like the bulk and heft of this razor and it took just a moment to get use to. It definitely was shave ready and cut through the facial hair with ease. I performed a 3 pass shave with only two slight nicks that drew a few drops of blood. Mainly I am convinced from just getting use to this new razor.

An almost slick BBS except for the oh so common areas that always are hard to get. But this American made razor did as good as any of my fine German gals! Very well balanced to me even though this is some thick bar stock PRC produces. Easy to clean too!

I really can't say enough on how happy I am with this and I am sure I will order again one day when Scott gets those shorty's up and production going.

So glad you liked it. Wonderful to hear, and to see that the "issues" I mentioned were not unique to my order. Makes me feel even BETTER if that's possible. But now you have a problem . . .

Michael - That's a great addition to your rotation. A very nice razor indeed.

Once you get the 1/4 wedge dialed in BBS's will be the norm. Congratulations

I'm really glad that you're happy, and that you got a great shave. I am curious though about the feel of the length of the "monkey tail". I sometimes put a couple of "meaty" fingers in that area, and wonder if it was comfortable for you. The tail looks short, but it could just be the comparison to the rest of the razor.

    Congrats!

    Purdy!
I started out with a 1/4 grind with heft and love them.
I have full grinds that shave well. But, I prefer a more substantial blade.
The rest tend to sit around, so I'm going to thin them out of my collection, except the rare ones.

Cannot speak to the Kraken, but my Hydra has no trouble handling two of my fingers on the tail when I want them there.

Would you please explain this? How many razors have you seen? There is a standard ratio of spine thickness to blade width. Are you saying this one has a thicker spine? If so, then the consequence is a more obtuse bevel angle.
