Thanked: 4827To me the difference is in what you are doing with it. Is it organized, perhaps displayed, maybe a little of both or is there so much of it all mixed up in boxes that nobody ever sees or works on. There is a line in my mind that is pretty clear. Lately I have been fairly busy with other stuff and have not had time to work inn my stuff or organized it, so that makes me feel more like a hoarder than a collector. If I am cleaning the stuff that comes in and repairing it perhaps selling a little as it gets looking a little nicer, I feel much more like a collector. In the not so distant I am planning some cases and displays for some of my stuff. I have some NOS stuff that I wold like to display, as well as my older razors, I would like them on display as well, but I need to purge some of the stuff that I never use and likely won't use or display. I have a bunch of DE razors that are not my cup of tea and some straight razors too. If it is not what fits in my rotation or for a good display I think I should move it and not just store it.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

As I related, it is nice to get stuff off the bench and get it used. By myself, or someone else.
Silly how we buy more when we won't live long enough to fix what we actually have!
A good display is important as-collecting. Good-looking stuff goes in and is maintained. Honed, shaved with, put back. Next?
'Someday....Im gonna shave with that!" . At least you can share them, as displayed.Last edited by sharptonn; 07-02-2015 at 02:35 AM.
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

I think a hoarder would just buy anything whereas a collector would to some degree curate their collection and probably have some sort of underlying theme or logic to it like sorting by maker or style or predominately purchasing one type/maker and trying to find better examples of those.

Thanked: 23A bit like the difference between a gourmet and gourmand.
"The noun gourmand refers to someone who is extremely (and often excessively) fond of eating and drinking.
A gourmet (a noun with more favorable connotations) is a connoisseur: someone with refined tastes in food and drink."

Nice collection my friend .
I have lost count of the number of times that I"ve told myself No more Razors.
I am now content to know that I am incurable
