Agreed - mine is one of my favorite Sheffield blades - the feel of the steel is very soft yet crisp and sharp.

Interesting with the coffin box you got with yours. Mine had the original packaging, which was a big leather pouch for the razor, and then that pouch went into a very large eliptoid shaped coffin box - quite large when all put together.

Yes I agree with you both on the softness of the steel. The coffin box on mine I had seen before only this is the first time I was able to acquire it, it's quite large compared to normal coffin boxes.

This is a definite longshot, but check out the thread Voidmonster put up about 'tapered blades' here ,

I say a longshot because that blade may have been modified to get rid of a large chip. OTOH, it may have been made that way. There certainly is no hone wear I can see at the point end of the spine.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Mine came with the original 'Giant' box:

Jimmy, I was thinking the same thing when I saw it. I have one & it is an F. Fenney. You can tell if the spine gets narrower from heel to toe. I can't remember if all of them are like that but most of them are.

Crikey! Wolf, that is indeed a giant box.
One of my previous GB's came with a large box that I currently use for the Blasberg.

On second thought, now putting the Blasberg right next to the GB...
The GB is the wider razor, but the Blasberg is the larger one.
The box goes back to the GB.

Ha! It is indeed Sashimi! I've got several big boxes that go with other 8/8 and 9/8 choppers, BUT this is really massive to accommodate the 11/8 GB that goes in it.

BTW...very nice job you did on yours my friend!

Owning about 12 or so of the tapered blades myself ( I LOVE the way they shave!), I would have to say that this is a regrind to get rid of a big chip at some time in the past. It would make sense to me that if that was done they more than likely also re-ground the face at the same time, which of course would have eliminated and hone-wear on the spine. Just MHO...

Your right Engine 46 that all of the true tapered blades have a 'quill' type of a spine, narrowing toward the point. At least all of mine are like this.

Here's mine when it arrived....leather pouch and massive coffin box....I did some gentle work on the leather pouch to recondition it.
