Default A pair out of American history

I just received this pair of James Johnson razors and am very happy. It is a personalized pair, marked Allen Wardner, 1831, and almost in untouched condition. The scales were trashed and will be rebuilt.

Zak was able to find some information on Mr. Wardner. The razors came from Vermont, where an Allen Wardner was involved heavily in business and politics, being in the Vermont House of Representatives, starting in 1831. He was also the father-in-law of a US Senator, Secretary of State, and Attorney General. While there is no direct evidence for the connection, I am happy with the razors being the right time and coming from the right place for the match.

Nice. It's rare to see a pair of these in such preserved condition.
Will look lovely with some new scales.

    Nice pair.
It's poorly stamped on both, but says "James Johnson / Silver Steel"

Thanks. My motivation is that I have a Johnson that I am working on, well it's in my project pile, and it has a strange and rather scriptive J. I was wanting to try to start to look at some other Johnson stamps to see were or when it may match. I will eventually finish it up and get some answer when I post it.

Now those will make a nice pair in the Gentlemen's Club!!!!
    Very stunningly gorgeous..........
I know you didn't find them on the bay & if you did, I surely didn't see them. Those deserve some beautiful Ivory scales or some nice scales done by Thaeris.

The stamp is not good on the left side, so only the bottom of the J is barely there. Hard to tell. Looking forward to seeing yours
