Large Trade sign/Dsiplay Razors
I hope to see many different Display or Trade sign razors show up in this Thread. They are a fascinating part of the history of shaving. Back when literacy was not the norm, a person went by the pictures on signs or the quality of the displays to choose a place to shop or an item to buy.

Here is the only one I have and I think it was one from the 1880's or so and there are faint traces of paint still on it. It is certainly a manufactured item, there must be more of them out there.

Here's a few I've seen.....
pine, with black-painted handle, white and gray-painted blade, and wrought iron hangers.
Probably late 19th century; 26.5" x 60.5".
date unknown,19.5" long, blade is 2.75" wide, sheath is 3"wide.
Ohio, wood and metal folding straight razor.
The blade is marked Tyler Davidson and Company, Cincinnati.
Retaining its old black and copper. Tyler Davidson & Co. was the hardware firm of
Tyler Davidson and henry Probasco.
In 1871 Probasco dedicated a fountain in downtown Cincinnati to the memory of his late partner
and the fountain became a Queen City Icon.Last edited by bongo; 09-25-2015 at 02:49 AM.

An old W&B display razor (pic taken from the web)
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have bought this razor to another french guy who sold it to me but without knowing where it comes from...
it's a french typ blade but we don't have more information about who did it and for whom it was.
it's a 27/8 size razor.

Nice thread ! I know Thaeris had a gorgeous one from Henckels :
I'll let him present it if he can ;-)
Here is one I've seen in reality :
It is hung on the wall of the offices of the Leresche manufacture here in France, which is still in activity (but no more razors, unfortunately). I asked if I could put the same razor with it, actual 6/8 size, to have a better understanding of the scale :
They also have some spare blades for this Goliath :
I believe this razor was not sent to retailers, but was kept in the offices for prospect interviews, or brought to trade fairs.
