Funny, if the scales are in really bad shape on a straight, I don't mind replacing them - but replating a razor IMO is something I'd never do - I personally would never buy a replated DE, would just be to modified for my liking, of course, YMMV.

That toggle razor could fund much funds to whatever other AD you wanted to indulge in, liked your thought on it as well from the other thread. You mentioned that it performed the same/similar to the Fat Boy, you didn't notice the blade being held firmer by the mechanism?
Well, personally I don't see much difference in replating a DE or modifying a SR with new scales or sanding down the blade. They would both be technically altered non original items.

No. I don't think there is much difference in how firmly the blade is held between the two. Just an impression, nothing measured scientifically.

All I have to say Bob is that you have now shown me the first DE razor which is from the years around when I began shaving that I have never seen before! I was a razor fanatic from 1962 or so (when I actually needed to shave, and thought I had seen everything, since my grandmother was a 2d hand store junkie also, but the toggle is a new one on me. Thanks for sharing!

I had one I sold that came in a similar box. Paperwork seemed to confirm it was the original packaging.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.
