It seems i like Sheffields
I found this Fredrick Reynolds on the bay and made an offer. It was accepted so this will give another one to work on when it gets cold. My problem is keeping my hands off it until it gets cold. The blade is suppose to be 13/16 and horn scales. i couldn't see any chips or bug bits in the scales and the blade should polish up good . the edge looks like there's no frown so maybe i got lucky again.

Thanked: 1184I am a closet Sheffield guy :<0) I have a few that call me away from my regular 7 once in awhile. In fact I used an 8/8 Greaves today. Had to mow some long ones and it did just that with a deadly silence. I might add I never met a straight I didn't like.
Nice pick up. I usually lay in wait for sleepers too!Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

It's going to be interesting to how it turns out. the last larger Fredrick Reynolds it polished up good and it was suppose to be 6/8 and was really 7/8 a happy surprise. I like sheffields but also II like the larger solingens. It's the smaller very thin razors that give me trouble. there sharp but it seems like it takes more pressure. I know this may be all in my mind but who knows.

Thanked: 1184I am not going to say it's all in your mind but I will say I have some very thin blades that are not very wide and if handled properly I get a fantastic shave out of them. It's in the angle and not the pressure I think. They seem to be more nimble too so I have to remember to go slow. When was the last blue moon anyway :<0)

It's going to be a while before I take any after photos. the first thing I'll do is clean disinfect and then coat with oil wrap in wax paper. the scales look a little dry so i'll try to make them better before I do too much to the blade.

Know what you mean. the smaller the blade the harder it is for me to get to the right jaw line. hands don't want to work just like they should. it's easier for me to shave the left side of the face than the right. I go next week to the Doc. to get the thumbs injected. maybe that'll help. a lub job to the hands.

Thanked: 1184I have a non typical closet :<0) Messy too !
The top shelf does the most calling. Non Duck and thought to be for sale but.....dang it, they keep calling.
The 2nd shelf is Duck row except for a stray RedPoint which was put there by accident. Notice my razor box is open so I can see them.
3rd is a rack of misc. and some need TLC.
4th and 5th is where I put stuff because the whole thing needs to be set up and I can't decide exactly how yet. But it works :<0)

Thanked: 4827You say you got lucky again, I say you've got a good eye. I really like the Fred Reynolds razors.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!
