First finds "in the wild"!
So, I was visiting with my grandkids (and their parents ) and mentioned that I was interested in SRs to my daughter's father-in-law, when he was sharing a picture of an antique horse drawn sleigh he had found abandoned in an old barn. To my surprise, he said he had a razor and "stone" of his father's, who died about a year ago. He ran home and picked them up and gifted me...refusing to take anything in return.
Pictured below, the "stone" is an H. S. B.& Co. "Our Very Best" 2 grit Barber hone in the box, with instructions. It does look and feel like it was used with oil. The razor is a Premier Cutlery, Inc "Blackie", in fairly decent shape. It's going to be my first clean-up try. If anyone has any info on it, I'd love to hear it. I searched and didn't find anything quickly. I just returned home from the trip.

A really nice gift, I'm sure his father would be happy to see it put to use again.

I'm a sucker for a good barber hone. They sure don't make em' like that anymore...
God Bless, and Harold enjoy them both.

A generic German-branded Blackie! Made for United States consumption. Looks like stabilizer work is in order.
Will work out, I think! The hone is cool, also!

yep, someone honed a hook into the stabilizer area. The hone is cool, but all sticky greasy. It will take some work to clean up too. The original owner (the FIL's father) was from Montana and lived there about 50 of his 90 years, so I expect it came east from Montana with him. He was quite the outdoorsman (and character) and it is special to have something of his. His name was Bob, and every time I saw him and asked how he was he'd say,"I'm still Bob."

Harold, that was a very nice gesture of your in-laws. I have seen The C-Mon Blackie's but not one like that. I too like old barber hones for the history plus some of them do hone up a razor nicely. Very nice indeed!

I have cleaned up some grungy barber's hones like that with Ajax cleanser using a worn scrap of scotchbrite, Harold.
Wet it dip the scotchbrite in the cleanser, rub lightly, rinse and repeat till it is clean.
Seems to work well, FME."Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
