The 10th Cavalry Regiment is a unit of the United States Army. Formed as a segregated African-American unit, the 10th Cavalry was one of the original "Buffalo Soldier" regiments. It served in combat during the Indian Wars in the western United States, the Spanish–American War in Cuba and in the Philippine–American War. The regiment was trained as a combat unit but later relegated to non-combat duty and served in that capacity in World War II until its deactivation in 1944.
I would be more inclined to believe it was a British regiment. There are many, 10th Regiment of Foot, 10th Ghurka Rifles, 10th Royal Hussars to name just a few. Could be a long difficult search to nail the regiment down, but very worthwhile in my estimation.

Here is a picture of the tools:

The knife (also with ivory scales) is oddly thin but appears to have been designed that way. The pointy tool is a file of some type.

I'd guess the hook was intended for spats rather than buttons. Beautiful razors and a nice set indeed.

It appears that the dedication plaque on the outside of the wooden case was not installed where the case was assembled.
This looks like a very high tone set to be given to a Sergeant. But I guess 'the men of the Tenth means everyone above and below him in rank. This comes back to the plaque. Compared to the general refinement of the case and its contents the plaque looks almost field installed. I noticed there is some difficulty finding information about non commissioned officers. This is a fascinating mystery. Good Luck on your research Ernie1980.

I have been researching, and there are several people by the name of Thomas Wilson that were in the armed services/politics at that time. I found a possible match with a senator that was elected in 1895 that was formerly in the army, but I need to get a full copy of the book to make sure
