Thread: One more

This one looked interesting. When i get things back on track i'll give it some time. It doesn't look like it has much rust just some staining and needs some polishing. Just my kind of rework.

I some times forget to do that. It may be a while before i set in on it but i will try to remember. I think that it is a spanish point. Don't know for sure and i get them mixed up.

Another Frederick Reynolds I presume? So, shall we start calling you Sir Frederick Hensley or Sir Roger Reynolds? Both sound pretty cool IMHO! Hey, not trying to be sarcastic, I have this thing for playing with words/names. Anyway, you seem the be the FR man and I don't blame you, they are great shavers.

Personally, I love FR razors, got three I won't part with. One is a 5/8 near wedge in bone, one is a 7/8 near wedge in Zena wood and one is 7/8 probably 1/4 hollow with barber notch and 'The Gentleman's Razor' etched in the blade in Alternative Ivory. I think FR's are up there real close to Joseph Rodgers & Sons and maybe just a tad better than W&B.

This ones not a Frederick Reynolds although i wish it was. it is however a D Miller. don't know much about the maker just that it looked like some thing i could have a little fun with. The cost was not much so if i screw it up then i haven't lost that much. The way things are going these days it was probably less than a pack of Cigs.

It looks like it might be a good one though I don't recall hearing anything about a D Miller. Is it a Sheffield? It sure looks like it.

A while back I bought a Pranafa Solingen I never heard of, I have the only one I've seen, took a chance on it and ended up being a great shaver. They don't always have to be a well known or popular name to be great shavers.

I really don't know if it is a Sheffield or not. all it said in the add was that it was a silver steel so i am guessing it's sheffield. at any rate the scales look good with no cracks or chips and appear to be bone. It was very inexpensive so either way it should be good.

This is David Miller out of Sheffield. According to Tweedale, from 1833-49 he worked out of Fargate (I have a razor marked 16 Fargate; yours may or may not have this address). After 1852, D. Miller & Son were operating out of Eldon Street.

Nice price too. Curious if that one is bone or ivory, was difficult to tell from the pics.

I think it's bone. want know for sure until it gets here. looks like a fun shape. can't really tell from the photos about the hone wear but i hope it's not too muck.

I got this one today and It is bone scales. I think. I removed the blade and cleaned the scales in soft scrub and a brush and now there soaking in polident overnight to see if it will brighten them up some. the blade i've got on the work bench and am using the normal run of wet dry paper with WD40. The blade is cleaning up fair but slow. no surface rust or pits but there is some staining that is resisting the wet dry a little. it's going away but slow. I do think it's going to be a good razor when finished. It is a D Miller and marked improved silver steel. There's no address on it.
