Projects
Don't know how long it will be before i can start work on them but i won these off the bay. The first is a Wade and Butcher near W. 5/8 and the second is a Manhatten cuttlery I think is a 6/8. The wade and butcher i believe just needs a good cleaning a polishing and honing. the Manhatten needs the same but also scales. I think i have a set of bone scales that will fit it also the providence blade that i made scales for and the blade is junk the scales may work just fine. We'll see. at any rate it will be a least a couple of months before i give them a try. My hands shake too bad right now to try to unpin and repin. I don't do good with pain meds.

Me too. My only Sheffield is a WB with the same shape.
Just remember to use a bit of a rolling x stroke.

Thanked: 634If you look on strazors.com I believe Manhattan Cutlery was a trademark used by Boker.

It says Knives marked for the Manhatten Cutlery Co. were imported from Sheffield England until 1916. I'm not sure that makes it a Boker trade mark. Maybe a typo and should read knives marked 'from' not for. The 1868 date is suspect since Manhattan Works was not opened until about 1887.
John Newton opened Manhattan Works, No. 11 Arundel Lane by 1887. By 1900 Manhattan Works had moved to Lambert Street the home of John Watts which purchased Newton's trade marks (a picture of a frog and the words 'Manhattan Cutlery Co.,Sheffield). The firm disappeared from the directories after 1926.Last edited by karlej; 01-13-2016 at 01:57 PM.

Thanked: 634You may be correct. I was going by the name Manhattan Cutlery Co. not Manhattan works. I took them to be two different companies. Thanks for the correction.
By the way, I have one and they shave great!

The Manhatten cutlery blade came in today and it looks very good. a little polishing and a set of scales some honing and it'll be complete. hope my luck holds out.

I got the Wade and Butcher today and as expected it's in good shape. it really doesn't look like it's been on a hone before. now there's only one left to get here. i put some SRD razor oil on the blade and scales and wrapped in wax paper for now. i'll work on it when i get more mobile.
