Say hello to my little friend.
I'll have more to say about this later. I'm currently neck-deep in repainting my house after the contractor tore out the knob & tube wiring, rewired the whole thing, then patched the holes. It's a lot of work, but soon I'll move into the house and be very, very happy.
But today this finally arrived. The one at the top.
That little thing below it is a standard 8/8 W&B FBU, just for reference.-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.

Is that a vintage NOS, or a restore ? Looks great whatever the case !
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Fortunately, I don't need to repaint the entire interior of the house, but my wife and I are completely repainting the two offices and the dining room.
What? That's not what you meant?
Oh yeah.
The scrimshaw says "MAGOG", one of the two mythical giants who protect London (the other being Gog -- no one really knows how two biblical cities became giants in England).
I think it was made in 1823, but it might well be earlier. GR stamps were well and truly in use during George III's time, as it turns out.-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.

Well, it's a giant, no doubt! Who was the maker, Zak?
Are the scales ivory?
Take a little break from the painting, eh?Last edited by sharptonn; 03-17-2016 at 02:00 AM.

Indeed! I suggest just waving a metal detector in the general direction of England, and you'll probably find it. Especially since I've got it's brother, the Gog oughta be just a bout the largest steel thing in the country.
Palmer out of London. As you can see from that clip, he apparently made ... other ... things too.
And as for the painting....
