There are felt pads lining the scales which were impregnated with an oil meant to keep the ege corrosion free. The pads are secured by the pivot and wedge pins plus the two smaller ones in the middle.

I'll look at the wedge on my Felt Pad razor and see if the top is thicker.

Correction. The felt pads do not extend to the pivot. My razor also has a wedge that is thicker on top. My hypothesis is the felt pads require a little more clearance for the blade entering the scales.

No problem for answering before me. That's what we're all here for, to help one another out. I was a little pre-occupied but you answered it correctly plus I also believe the wedge is thicker on top to accommodate for the felt pads so Leatherstockiings & I are on the right track along with anyone else who knows about these. Like he said, the extra pins are to hold the felt pads to the inside of the scales & they were lubricated like he said. Another story I heard about that was they put antiseptic in the liners which was probably like a lubricant also. Here's a pic of my nicer looking one which says Antiseptic on the blade:




And to answer your question Mike, this is my other one * it will stand on its own but the one in the first pic won't. They have beveled scales, so if they aren't just right, it will not stand on it's own. I think these are cool razors & I see them from time to time but they will have different scales on them because they won't have the extra pins that hold the felt pads. If any of you are looking to own one, remember that! I saw this one & it had the extra pins & the price was right so I snagged it.
Had to come back & fix my pic. It didn't crop right so no, I wasn't trying to show off 3 aluminum Rubberset brushes no #, #3 & #4.
