Thanked: 2284Chipped Wade & Butcher FBU.
My heart stopped when I was opening the blade and saw the blade etch. Then I noticed the chip..... Nooooooooo!!!! Fresh chip too, probably happened while on it's way to be sold at the antique store. I can tell you exactly how it happened too. Wooden home made scales that were too small. The blade was hanging out the bottom of the scales.......... ahhhhhh!
Still, I think removing the chip from it's 17/16 size will only reduce it to 8/8 in size. Someone already wanted to buy it from me on Instagram, but I think I may change my mind and keep it. I only try and buy perfect blades these days from antique stores, only cause I'm trying to thin the heard, but I may make an exception for this one.
Also found some Lignum lawn bowls with some nice ivory button inserts...... and you know where those will end up.
Whatcha think of the chip fellas?

I think it is a shame, but it is what it is. Just make sure to keep the smiling profile when you hone it out. Nice find the lignum. Love that stuff. I have a brush by pixelfixed with the lignum vitae handle.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 169Nice blade. Stinks someone didn't tie it or tape it in the scales. Sometimes woth those homemade scales he edge pokes out of the bottom and the edge gets trashed that way.

Thanked: 4827They are getting harder and harder to find, so if it takes a little work and the price is right then we've got a bingo! I think you can handle this one easily enough. Even at 15/16 it's still a keeper.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 2284I really hope that when I take the chip out I can maintain the sexy lines it currently has. At least that will be my main goal.
Damn thing has amazing patina on it as well, with hardly any traces of rust.
It'll be getting original styled scales from horn, lead wedge and brass bullseye collars.Burls, Girls, and all things that Swirl....

You have to go slow and make sure you retain the same lines. Getting in a hurry can cause more chips and ruin the shape.
If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

That is one nice looking razor!
The patina is GREAT.
The chip shouldn't be too bad to hone out...
