That's because the tang itself is also large. That changes the perception of the whole blade.
I'll see if I can post a pic with my 14 next to it.

Congrats, should polish up beautifully, how wide is the blade? Sounds like a typical Solingen dynasty (fathers, sons, uncles, cousins etc), I've seen a reference to an Ewald Räder too....

    Thanks Michael. It's 26mm.
I've seen Ewald as well, though only in references to yet earlier ages.

I'd love to see a comparison. If you get time.

    I stand corrected.
The blades are nearly equal size.
Only the tang of the Rader is larger.

That is a very interesting razor.
If it shaves like a Fili or Henckles 14, and I'm kinda sue that it will, you have a real score there. It looks to be in great shape and should clean up nicely.
    Congratulations and enjoy!

I'd say its still bigger than the Fili. Just a bit. But every bit counts! Very nice find.

Finally got round to some hand sanding and MicroMesh cloths on this blade. I went down to grit 240 and still couldn”t get to the deeper oxidation points. Didn’t feel like going any lower and worked my way up to the 12000 cloth.
Then I set the bevel on a Pierre d’Ardennes, progressed on a blue Coticule and finished on an Asagi slurry stone. It’s what I took with me to Italy.
I’ll refine it when I get home. The end effect is that the “after” pictures this time are not much different from the “before” ones, but then again, I’m not a pro restorer.
A fine shave followed and will be in the SOTD section.
