    Default Hugo Rader 8/8

    Dear Gents,

This blade came my way through the local Dutch Bay.
    An unusually large Hugo Rader.
The blade shape is reminiscent of the 14's by Henckel's and Filarmonica.
The blade is longer than my 14's though.
About a third of an inch longer.
The blade needs some work, but has great restore potential.
I'm taking it with me on the holiday break and will spend some time on it.
It's a full hollow blade, which is amazing for a blade this size produced in that era.
The scales too are incredibly thin.
This was a high quality manufacturer for sure.
    One happy camper here.

Man! That's a nice one! Big and in black. Quality!

Hard to imagine its longer in those pics. With the blade being so big, it looks shorter. Thanks for sharing.
    It's just Sharpening, right?

That's because the tang itself is also large. That changes the perception of the whole blade.
I'll see if I can post a pic with my 14 next to it.

Congrats, should polish up beautifully, how wide is the blade? Sounds like a typical Solingen dynasty (fathers, sons, uncles, cousins etc), I've seen a reference to an Ewald Räder too....

    Thanks Michael. It's 26mm.
I've seen Ewald as well, though only in references to yet earlier ages.

I'd love to see a comparison. If you get time.

    I stand corrected.
The blades are nearly equal size.
Only the tang of the Rader is larger.
