Thanked: 3795Lapping a barber hone removes the original fine burnished surface and replaces it with a much more coarse surface that is the product of the coarse grit used in barber hones and the peaks and valleys left by the lapping grit.

Thanked: 4827I'm pretty sure that BT & Co is and Escher hone. Don't kill the label while you are lapping and honing. A quick cover with CA or nail polish or lacquer will usually do the trick.

Thanked: 4827I think saving labels is important, even if they are part labels. They are part of the positive identification and as far as I am concerned without a label they are all mystery hones.
