Yeah. that slapping part always concerned me. Anyway, both the hone and the strop side of mine are kind of rough, haven't gotten around to figuring out how to redo them. So I've just done my blade manually on hones and hanging strops-awkward, but it works.

Same way I honed mine, but I set my strop in a flat surface for a mock, paddle strop.

I was making sure to be real careful with it, I learned really early what happens to a blade when it makes to fast and hard contact with the hone. But at least that razor was a cheap one, never could get it to hold an edge longer than one pass on a cheek. Still can't even after the techniques have gotten better.

Now you've gone and done it-I have to go and dig out my Rolls, which I probably haven't messed with in two years!

Dang fine set you have there. I think they are one great piece of engineering as well.

I have one of these tucked away. I got it when I was thinking of moving to straights. I tried it but it was uncomfortable. Seeing this post has inspired me to go back and give it another go. I have learned lots about shaving and razors since I got it.

That pouch is pretty cool too, mine doesn't have that, but everything else is there.

Plenty of information here, think some of the gents were taping and putting them to the hones like a straight.

Only if the guard was taken off, and I don't think I'll do that just yet.

When honeing off the machine do you put the blade flat on it he hone? Or do you have to put tape on the edge to make up space it has on the machine.
