Thread: Wild find!

So in between doctor appointments for my pregnant wife we stopped at an antique store, I always look where they have razors. Right off I spotted a new box, it came in a Whostenholm and Sons box, inside though... Wade and Butcher FBU!
It's in pretty great shape, I believe the scales have been replaced and the tips are broken off by the pivot, no washers on the pivot pin either. Not going to call it a steal, but very fair price. Super happy! Thanks for looking Gents.

That is a FBO, Eric! As I understand, the 'only' predated the 'use'.

Seems lots were not as huge. Nice find!

Thanks Tom, I think I'm missing the "o" bit. None the less, I'm guessing this to be late 1890's early 1900's? Any thoughts on this?
And yes this one falls between 13/16 and 11/16. Slightly larger than 6/8

If they did indeed predate the FBU's, The FBO's would have to be much older than that. (For Barbers Only!)

Looks like it may have been hollow-ground at some point?

I did not honestly notice is said FBO I was so excited when I open the coffin that I went kinda cross eyed. Plus looking at it think you are right about the hollow aspect. There is little hone wear but I believe a slight frown. Have not taken too much time to investigate. Although the spine is just shy of .250 which seems a bit thick for this blade, to me anyway.

I can't believe I am just now learning of these! Seems insane!

So from my reading Manah states this blade does pre date FBU, so roughly 1840 to 1880. Jimeney Cricket! Seems as though alot allot of this blade is gone through the years. I think she deserves some black horn scales and a lead wedge!

Talk about a stroke of luck and being in the right place at the right time.
