Thanked: 315Awesome purchase. Trying not to be too envious! You do so much for guys here it is great to see you scoring a deal like this.
When you posted it in the lunacy thread I was trying to decide if you were for real or not! I hadn't seen this thread at the time.
I'll have to inspect the pictures more closely tomorrow. I love the "I AM GOOD..." stamp on the stubtail.- Joshua

It was a awesome find, Josh. I've been looking in the wilds for razors of this caliber, but I wasn't expecting to find them grouped together, and all at once.
Then to absolutely steal them, was another.Mike

Thanked: 315Too bad the DD is eat up. Hopefully the blade is salvageable. I'm starting to think the reason they are so sought after is most of them are have fallen apart by now!
The only two DD's I've seen in the wild with bolsters were both wrecked
One had a busted blade.
Other was rusted through from what I now know is cell rot.
I know you will want to have them shining, but looks like they are solid for the most part.
I'm actually growing fond of horn faux tortoise. I guess I like that they were trying to duplicate tortoise shell even before they were making celluloid scales!- Joshua

Wow, I just found this thread. You definitely belong behind bars, Mike-what a deal! That would keep me busy for years. By the way, I have that exact 7/8" Frederick Reynolds in the original faux tortoise-shell scales, and it's one of my favorite shavers.
Congrats on the score! Aaron

Thanked: 315ScoutHikerDad,
I don't know their history, but Reynolds seems to be a great company. I kick myself for selling an FR "Old English Razor" about 13/16 hollow ground with barbers notch. Just got into razors, needed money, and I thought I was going to like the heavy wedges better. I bet that thing would have been an awesome shaver.
Can't remember the thread but I believe one of Mike's favorite shavers was a 7/8 rattler (FR?) so that one will be seeing some use. Apologies if that I incorrect.
Looks like that stubtail had three stamps for the spine. I love how simple the text is!
I AM GOOD AND WILL SHAVE WELL
They didn't use sensational language or put a disclaimer below it! Lol- Joshua

You know, you should go back to that store and ask him if he's got any of those blue-grey looking stones about 8" long with German writin' on the bottom. Then you could take it off his hands for a few bucks. I asked a dealer that once and he said he'd had one recently but he'd sold it a few weeks ago
