Thanked: 1082Dumas Ainé 32 Thiers
Got this French frameback for a song last week.
Dumas Ainé 32 is one of the oldest cutlers from Thiers. I read somewhere the 32 comes from 1532 when it was established!
Haven't got a clue what L' Agesi means, good ol Google let me down.
It also doesn't state Thiers, France on the tang which would indicate been made before 1891 but that doesn't seam right.
Any ideas?Last edited by markbignosekelly; 02-08-2020 at 07:38 PM. Reason: Dumas not Duras.......

What a beautiful razor Mark.
Almost looks new.
Nothing like a frameback shave.
Congratulations!

€24 AKA US$26 is not bad for https://www.ebay.fr/itm/223854604827. "ancien rasoir coupe choux L'ALGÉSI STRAIGHT RAZOR RASIERMESSER old stock Thiers" is, well, clickbait. Also, there is no hit for a proper search on Google. As for the age, trust Pieter in this forum.

Thanked: 1082I saw that same Dumas on Ebay.Fr. Mine was listed at the same time but looked mint, that one appeared to have some spine wear so I took a punt and got it for £20. Seems silly that a Thiers Issard, Leresche or Pradat Brun frameback in the same condition would go for four times the price.
From what little I could find (same thread) Durmas 32 was trademarked in 1805 but the company has been around since 1532

For "Algesi," I looked it up on Wikipedia français and came up with nothing. Then I did a general search and came up with "algesia" which apparently is a medical term referring to sensitivity to pain. So perhaps it was some sort of marketing to those with sensitive skin, sort of like other razors were marked "pour barbes dures."
